The Georgia-Mississippi State series in Starkville this weekend is an important one both on the national landscape and in the SEC standings.

However, it was also a huge one for Mississippi State OF Jake Mangum, who made SEC history on Saturday afternoon.

As you can see below, Mangum collected his second hit of the day in the bottom of the second inning on a bloop single down the right-field line:

What was so significant about that hit? Well, it broke LSU legend Eddy Furniss’s conference record for most hits in a career. Mangum now has 353 hits with his two so far on Saturday.

Here was Mangum’s first hit to tie Furniss’s record in the bottom of the first inning:

Congrats to Mangum on the wonderful career. It’s not over yet, either, as the Bulldogs could still have a special postseason ahead of them.
