Mississippi State opens up conference play this week in Kentucky, and the No. 14 Bulldogs will be looking to maintain their undefeated record and get off to a quick 1-0 start in the SEC.

On Monday, coach Joe Moorhead previewed their matchup with the Wildcats and talked about what Mississippi State has to do to defeat one of the hottest teams in the SEC.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge for us obviously,” Moorhead said. “You can see by their roster that they have recruited size, speed, length and athleticism, and not just that part of the roster, but they have done an excellent job developing the talent.”

Moorhead knows putting pressure on the quarterback will be a key to victory, and he faces a challenge in trying to contain Terry Wilson this week.

“(One of) their best players we believe is Terry Wilson, he’s a very dynamic player who can extend plays with his feet and has done a great job as a passer this year,” said Moorhead.

Benny Snell Jr. however, is definitely the player any defense has to prepare for when Kentucky is next up on the docket, and Moorhead spent a lot of time discussing Snell Jr.’s ability as a player and what his defense needs to do to slow him down.

“Certainly running back Benny Snell, his talent and production speak for themselves,” said Moorhead. “He’s a guy that you know, I think you’re not necessarily going to stop him, you’re just looking for ways to contain him, because he is talented and I think their offensive line averages over 315 pounds across the board.”

“Like with any great back, you have to make sure you have great gap integrity, you have to make sure you do a great job with your gang tackling and getting a bunch of hats to the ball, and with this guy, with how physical he is and guys bounce off tackles, you can’t be on the edge of him, because if you’re going to arm tackle he’s going to run right through it.”
