Albert Okwuegbunam was well on his way to being honored as potentially the nation’s best tight end last season when he unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury in Missouri’s 38-17 win at Florida. In that game, Okwuegbunam broke his scapula but is scheduled to be 100 percent by the time the fall season arrives.

With Drew Lock leaving the program this offseason, the challenge of stepping up and providing additional leadership on offense falls on the shoulders of players like Okwuegbunam this spring. That’s something Missouri’s tight end discusses in a recent video interview with Mizzou Football.

The 2017 All-SEC Second Team selection and Freshman All-SEC selection will now be looked upon as one of the faces of the program if the Tigers are going to live up to the hype some have already placed upon their shoulders this offseason. On the best college football teams, the best players develop into the best leaders and if Okwuegbunam can fill that role, Missouri should thrive come the fall season.

Check out what Okwuegbunam had to say about his continued rehab efforts and the team’s ongoing spring camp in Columbia:
