Yes, it’s been a long year for the Missouri Tigers so far, but second-year head coach Barry Odom is not letting that get his team down.

Sitting at 1-5, things are looking bleak, but the Tigers actually have a manageable second-half schedule and could still reach six wins if they continue to improve.

On Monday, Odom said he burned memories — game plans, scouting reports, negative social media attention and more — during a team meeting on Sunday (via STLToday.com):

“You’ll get a kick of out this,” he said, holding up a dented can of Instant Ignite from his lectern. “This was used last night, so that’s good. I don’t know why it stayed in here. … I don’t think we got any marks (on the walls). Sprinklers didn’t go off, so we probably need to get those tested also.”

As the Tigers prepare for a homecoming matchup against Idaho this weekend, Odom said his team is preparing like they’re 0-0 and not 1-5:

“They know what’s out there and what’s not out there,” he said. “It’s the elephant in the room. Let’s talk about it. So that’s good. They know what we’ve got this week. Let’s take care of business. We know what we got next week. There will be plenty of challenges next week but also look at the big picture of what’s happened to this point and what we’ve got left.”

With games against Idaho, UConn, Tennessee, Florida, Vanderbilt and Arkansas remaining on the schedule, it’s not crazy to think the Tigers could turn their year around.

However, it all starts this weekend. If Mizzou is upset at home by Idaho, it could be a very long year for Tiger fans.
