The NFL’s Hall of Fame Game was short on quarterback play Thursday night. In fact, it was a tough night for both teams’ signal callers, including rookie Drew Lock.

The former Missouri gun slinger completed 7-of-11 passes for 34 yards. Lock missed on a couple of longer throws by merely inches. He took over for Broncos starter Kevin Hogan — starter Joe Flacco sat out — in the second quarter and played into the fourth quarter.

Lock completed his first NFL pass to Nick Williams, but otherwise, it was pretty forgettable.

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio hasn’t been too complementary of Lock during the preseason thus far, and he wasn’t after Thursday night either.

“I was hoping for more, but [I’m] not surprised,” Fangio said, via the team’s official website. “He’s still got a lot of work to do. I thought his accuracy wasn’t clean all the time along with his reads, but that’s to be expected. We’ve got four more games and we’ve got to get him ready — more ready than he is right now.”

Lock didn’t seem too upset; he took it all in stride, but he knows that he’s got to make strides.

“I’ll rate it as a learning game,” Lock said after the game. “There’s definitely things I’ll learn there, but I’m excited that I’m sitting here and that was the first time ever stepping out on the field.

“It was the Hall of Fame game. It wasn’t the Super Bowl, it wasn’t the playoffs — so there’s a lot of things for me to learn, a lot of things for me to look forward to, to progress a little bit.”

Lock will continue to compete for the Broncos backup job with Hogan and Brett Rypien.
