Any chance Drew Lock had at earning the starting quarterback job in Denver to start the season is likely over.

The rookie from Missouri was injured during Denver’s latest preseason game against the 49ers. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Lock has been diagnosed with a sprained thumb. This information was discovered following an MRI.

While that news obviously isn’t great, the good news is it could have been much worse. Lock will not have to undergo surgery after suffering the injury.

So far during the preseason, Lock had completed 31 of his 51 pass attempts for 254 yards and a single touchdown this NFL preseason. Denver selected Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
