Eli Drinkwitz reveals plan for Missouri's Saturday scrimmage, speaks about QB competition
Eli Drinkwitz revealed Missouri’s plans for Saturday’s scrimmage in which the winners will get steaks, and the losers hot dogs.
A draft will happen on Wednesday. Defensive tackle Darius Robinson and offensive lineman Connor Wood will choose one team, while WR Barrett Banister and defensive end Isaiah McGuire will choose the other team.
The team captains will also draft coaches for Saturday.
Quarterbacks Brady Cook and Tyler Macon, who trained together in St. Louis during high school, both badly want to win the job, the coach said, and Sam Horn will add another element to the competition when he arrives. The QBs won’t be tackled in the scrimmage.
“As the late Colin Powell said, ‘The only thing better than a little competition is a lot of competition,'” Drinkwitz said.
Individual player development was mentioned by Macon, Cook, and Drinkwitz as the goal of the spring.
Cook said he wants to show his ability to hit deep balls on Saturday.
As for other developments:
- Drinkwitz said he asks the quarterbacks to get 2 first downs per game with their legs.
- Drinkwitz also shared about how impressive CB Dreyden Norwood has been in the spring after transferring from Oklahoma and playing QB in high school.
- Drinkwitz said that Norwood and others use oven mitts to prevent holding in coverage.
- DL Darius Robinson has been taking his body extremely seriously and working to be a true leader of this team.
- LB Devin Nicholson was challenged to gain weight and he did. Now at 231 pounds.
Eli Drinkwitz says two seniors will each draft a team for Saturday’s spring scrimmage. D-tackle Darius Robinson/OL Connor Wood will pick one team; while WR Barrett Banister/DE Isaiah McGuire will pick the other team. Draft is tomorrow.

Lastly, some notes from Brady Cook and Tyler Macon’s presser, QBs 1A and 1B. (Drinkwitz told the media Merry Christmas).
1. Macon, Cook, and Drinkwitz all mentioned individual player development as the goal of the spring. Definitely the word of the day.
