Eli Drinkwitz assessed the competition between Missouri’s quarterbacks during the spring practices.

Last season, Missouri reached a bowl game for the 2nd consecutive season under Drinkwitz. The team’s quarterback play in 2022 was a major contributor to the team’s success. While appearing on WJOX 94.5 FM’s McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Drinkwitz mentioned the stiff competition between his quarterbacks throughout the spring season.

“The only thing better than a little competition is a lot of competition and we just know that Brady [Cook] did a really solid job for us, but we have to play better at a lot of different places in order to get to where we want to be. We are not satisfied with being a .500 football team. We’ve got to improve and everybody has to raise their level of play,” Drinkwitz said. “Brady missed the spring with an injury, so Jake [Garcia] was able to get accustomed, Sam [Horn] missed the spring with a baseball injury and he finished the last few weeks at full speed.”

With 5 months remaining in the offseason, Cook is the likely favorite to win the starting job based on his experience. Last season, Cook passed for 14 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, and 2,724 yards in 13 games. Aside from Cook, Horn is the only quarterback on the roster to make an appearance in 2022.

Missouri will have 5 months to decide the winner of the quarterback competition.
