The Missouri Tigers signed one JUCO prospect on Wednesday and still is waiting on one JUCO prospect to sign. Both players, however, should fit in nicely with Gary Pinkel’s program.

Running back Chase Abbington is a load in the backfield as 6-foot-2, 210-pounds. He’s yet to sign with the Tigers, but has been committed to the program since November 2013.

The Hutchinson Community College product contributed nicely in 2013 with nearly 900 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, but was redshirtted in 2014 as former Alabama running back Alvin Kamara got the bulk of the carries.

Missouri isn’t thin at running back for 2015, despite losing all-purpose back Marcus Murphy. The Tigers will return Russell Hansbrough, who’s amassed 970 yards this year, and Morgan Steward will finally be 100 percent healthy.

Abbington can separate himself because of his size, however. Missouri doesn’t have a big running back like Abbington, and certainly, at 6-foot-2 he could be a valuable commodity in short-yardage situations.

JUCO offensive lineman Malik Cuellar signed his letter of intent with Missouri on Wednesday.

His path to early playing time isn’t as clear as Abbington’s, but he should slot in as a backup. The Tigers lose only one starting offensive lineman in Mitch Morse.

So with a lot of experience coming back in 2015, it’s hard to see Cuellar breaking into a starting role sooner than later.

Currently, Missouri has the No. 47 ranked recruiting class according to 247sports.
