There’s nothing Missouri (1-2, 0-1) can do but move forward after its crushing 28-27, last-minute loss to SEC East rival Georgia last Saturday. Leading much of the entire second half, the Tigers allowed a game-winning touchdown drive orchestrated by UGA true freshman quarterback Jacob Eason and then fumbled on their last possession of the game to seal their fate.

Looking to even up its record and boost confidence against FCS Delaware this weekend, here’s what Mizzou coach Barry Odom had to say during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference:

On the team’s attitude after tough loss:

“We had great meetings on Sunday, and we always learn from the good and the bad. We learn why we are in the game … minus-four in turnovers but we battled and had the opportunity to finish the game but we didn’t. We have a great team of competitors.”

On any obvious improvements from Week 1-3:

The offensive line continues to improve, point of attack blocking, and we’re playing 10 or 12 kids at wide receiver. They’ve played really well and understand their role. Defensively, the front seven made a step in the right direction last week. We have what it takes to be better on that side.”

On injuries:

“We are pretty good, Logan Cheadle, [Sam] Bailey practiced. Alex Ross had more reps at running back and should be good to go.”

On scheduling FCS programs:

“Everything I want to accomplish through scheduling is on the student body getting the full experience. Playing in the greatest league in college football, we are going to get those experiences. We want as many home games in our state, that’s important. Of course we look at geography and if there are any enticing matchups.”

On limiting Georgia RB Nick Chubb to 63 yards last week:

So many things on the line of scrimmage that made that happen. We put an extra defender in the box, they made adjustments, the quarterback played well and they took advantage. We had success at times but I don’t think we responded well to the counter.”
