It was announced on Sunday that starting wide receiver Dimetrios Mason was dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons.

The sophomore was off to a rough start statistically (13 receptions for 119 yards), but he was the team’s second-leading receiver from 2016 after hauling in 47 passes for 587 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Junior wide receiver Emanuel Hall had already seen reps at the outside receiver position opposite J’Mon Moore prior to Mason’s dismissal, so he was already the logical replacement.

According to offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, Hall won’t be the only guy to step into an expanded role with Mason gone. Junior Nate Brown will also see an uptick in usage.

“With Emanuel and Nate Brown, both of those guys will step up,” Heupel said according to Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I’ve watched them in practice the last couple days (and) they’re excited about their role. They’re going to be heavily involved and be guys we can count on.”

Hall has size at 6-3, 200 pounds, and he is currently third on the team in average yards per catch (20.8) after bringing in 5 receptions for 104 yards so far this season.

Brown, on the other hand, only has one reception for 5 yards, but the 6-3, 205-pound junior is a former 4-star prospect according to 247Sports.

After starting the year 1-3 — averaging only 10 points in its last three contests — Missouri is going to need all the help they can get for quarterback Drew Lock, who has 1,115 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in four games this season.
