While QB Drew Lock will be entrenched (at least for the next season) as the starter, Missouri does need to build depth at the position.

Junior Jack Lowary and Micah Wilson are the only other two scholarship options on the roster. As such, the Tigers went out and addressed a need within the 2017 class.

’17 signal-caller Taylor Powell announced on Twitter that he will decommit from Wake Forest in favor of signing with Mizzou:

Powell — a 6-foot-2 signal-caller from Fayetteville, Ark., becomes the 22nd pledge within the class for Barry Odom and his staff. He also had offers from the likes of Washington State, Maryland, Indiana, and Illinois, among others.

The 3-star prospect is a heady player. He won’t wow anyone with physical tools, but he’s a winner. Powell is a three-year starter at one of the state’s best programs (which all led to championships). He’s also an exceptionally hard worker, and studies hours upon hours of film.

This appears to be a good get for the Tigers. Worst-case scenario, Powell will be a high-character, quality reserve.
