For the first time since 2012, the Missouri Tigers are not going bowling this holiday season. The next event on the team’s calendar is National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

College football is in its dead period of recruiting at the moment, but once it ends, the Tigers have a lot of work to do before Feb. 3. After evaluating the current roster and projecting the Bulldogs’ on-field needs in 2016 and 2017, here are Missouri’s top three priorities for the next recruiting cycle.

INTERIOR OL

Losing after 2015: Evan Boehm, Taylor Chappell, Mitch Hall and Brad McNulty

The offensive line remains the Tigers’ biggest recruiting need. The Tigers are losing their starting right tackle, right guard and center this offseason.

Center Evan Boehm, a four-year starter who should be one of the first centers taken in the NFL Draft, is going to be tough to replace. Missouri is also losing its most experienced backup offensive linemen.

As of Dec. 25, three-star community college transfer Royce Newman is the only hard commit on the offensive line for 2016. There is no doubt Missouri should focus on the recruiting offensive lineman this winter.

CORNERBACK

Losing after 2015: Kenya Dennis, David Johnson

Cornerback isn’t a position of immediate need, but the Tigers will see five cornerbacks, all significant contributors,  leave before the 2017 season. One of the CB starters, Kenya Dennis, won’t be back in 2016.

The Tigers need to recruit multiple cornerbacks this offseason and develop them next year in preparation for that. As of Dec. 25, Missouri has just one three-star commit at cornerback.

LINEBACKER

Losing after 2015: Kentrell Brothers, Clarence Green

Linebacker isn’t an immediate need for Missouri either, but the team is losing arguably its best player, senior LB Kentrell Brothers, and will lose two more starting linebackers after 2016.

Brothers led the team with 152 total tackles, including 12 tackles for loss. He also had three pass defenses, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions. That’s a lot of production to replace.

Thus far, Missouri only has one three-star commit at linebacker for the 2016 class. The Tigers will need to add one or two more this winter.

Other positions Mizzou should target: QB, TE, RB, WR, K

CURRENT RECRUITING CLASS

Missouri’s official 2016 recruiting class includes 11 hard commitments — four-star RB Natereace Strong from Hinds Community College leads the class. He should help a struggling offense that only averaged 3.5 yards per carry in 2015.

Strong’s teammate at Hinds, three-star safety Greg Taylor, is also a hard commit for Missouri. He is one of two safeties the Tigers have for the 2016 class.

MIZZOU NOT YET ON TRACK TO FILL NEEDS

Strong fills the need at running back, but offensive line remains a concern heading into the offseason.

Assuming that center Trystan Castillo, who is a soft commit at the moment, comes to Missouri, the Tigers need one more offensive lineman in the 2016 class. In the best-case scenario, Castillo will be an offensive guard.

Beyond that, the team needs to look ahead of 2016 to fill its future needs at cornerbacks and linebacker.

OUTLOOK

It probably isn’t too early to be a little worried about this incoming class at Columbia. According to 247 Sports, Missouri has the 13th-ranked recruiting class for 2016 in the SEC. Nationally, 247 Sports ranks the class just 57th.

This kind of class would put Missouri behind the 8-ball in the SEC East. The recruiting classes from Florida, Georgia and Tennessee are all ranked in the top 25 nationally.
