One of Missouri’s freshman defenders could be leaving the program.

According to AL.com SEC reporter Matt Zenitz, defensive lineman Montra Edwards is set to place his name in the transfer portal. Mizzou confirmed the news to beat reporter Dave Matter.

The native of Mississippi was considered a 3-star recruit by 247Sports, ranking as the No. 20 overall player in the state.

As a senior at Holmes County Central High School in 2019, Edwards amassed 134 tackles, with 23.0 of those stops resulting in lost yardage. He also added 17.0 sacks.

Edwards’ path to Mizzou was a little shaky to begin with, originally making a verbal commitment before re-opening his recruitment,  then eventually re-committing to the Tigers under new head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

Entering the transfer portal does not bound Edwards to leave MU, but allows other programs to begin formally recruiting him.

Missouri takes on LSU on Saturday, in a game that was originally set to be played in Baton Rouge but has been reportedly moved to Columbia due to the pending effects of Hurricane Delta.
