What Barry Odom said after mistake-filled, tough loss to Georgia
No one would call Georgia’s 43-29 victory over Mizzou on Saturday afternoon in Columbia “pretty,” but the Bulldogs got the job done.
Self-inflicted wounds — a fumble returned for a touchdown, a tipped interception and a blocked punt — all contributed to Mizzou’s two-touchdown loss.
Following the game, though, coach Barry Odom said it’s important that the team regroups ahead of a trip to South Carolina in two weeks.
Here’s what Odom said in his postgame press conference:
On self-inflicted mistakes:
Odom: It hurts when you prepare the right way … it rips at your soul.

Odom: "Team knows the self-inflicted things it did to let game go where it did."

On timing of the bye week:
Odom thinks bye week is good timing. Team can get healthy.

On defensive struggles:
Odom on the team's defensive struggles: "We're going to keep working. We've got an opportunity there to keep moving in the right direction toward being a pretty good defensive team."

On questionable missed field goal call:
Odom on McCann's miss: Everyone thought it was good. (The refs) didn't. So it must not have been."

On struggles throwing down the field:
Odom said Georgia lined up with two over the top and Missouri couldn't get behind them. Said the receiver room also wasn't full speed today.

On tough day from QB Drew Lock:
Odom on Lock's performance: "There's not a quarterback in the country I'd rather have than Drew Lock…he's going to bounce back."
— Eli Lederman (@ByEliLederman) September 22, 2018
On Cam Hilton’s injury:
Odom says Cam Hilton broke his thumb last week and it was that injury that largely kept him off the field in the second half today.
