My picks for Game 1 of the NBA Finals
Caleb Martin over 0.5 points. As mentioned earlier, Martin scored at least 14 points in every game against the Celtics. Dating back to the first-round series against Milwaukee, Martin has at least made 1 shot in every playoff game for the Heat. He’s played his way into a much bigger role entering the Finals, so I’d expect at least 10 points from him on Thursday night.
Nikola Jokic under 50.5 points+rebounds+assists. I’m not saying Jokic won’t play like a superstar on Thursday night. Far from it. I just don’t think he’ll fill the stat sheet like we’ve seen him do all too often this year. The Heat play at a slower pace, which will limit possessions in this game. Also, I have a feeling the well-rested Nuggets might be up big on the tired Miami squad by the fourth quarter, which means Jokic could spend the stretch run of the game on the bench. He’ll be great, but I don’t see him recording 51 points+rebounds+assists.
Bruce Brown over 0.5 3-pointers made. Brown has knocked down at least 1 3-pointer in 6 of his last 8 playoff games. The Heat will likely have Jimmy Butler trying to lock down Jamal Murray defensively, meaning a lesser defender will be assigned to Brown. With a backcourt that isn’t known for defensive prowess, Brown could have plenty of opportunities to let it fly from long range.
