The SEC normally churns out some elite defensive backs every season. In fact, LSU and Florida often go back and forth on which school is “DBU.”

Therefore, when NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein released his list of the 10 defensive backs to watch in 2018, it was no surprise to see two SEC players included.

Indeed, Georgia’s Deandre Baker and LSU’s Greedy Williams made the cut, with both players landing in the top three:

  • No. 1 — Greedy Williams, LSU
  • No. 3 — Deandre Baker, Georgia

About Baker, Zierlein wrote that the senior is a great ballhawk when he’s playing off-man coverage:

Baker has the quickness and speed to bump-and-run with no issues, but he appears to be at his best when he’s playing in off-man or zone and is allowed to lurk and pounce when he sees opportunities to ballhawk.

Zierlein credited Williams’ speed for covering up some of his mistakes, but added that the LSU star is still young and will have time to improve:

Greedy is a long-limbed speedster with disruptive ability, but he still needs to improve at finding the football quicker when his back is to the ball.
