49ers GM John Lynch discusses decision to release Reuben Foster following arrest

The San Francisco 49ers made the decision to release LB Reuben Foster on Sunday morning after the former Alabama standout was arrested on another domestic violence allegation on Saturday night.
This is just the latest of a handful of legal issues Foster has had since the 49ers took him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Before Sunday’s game in Tampa against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 49ers GM John Lynch said it was a tough decision, but Foster had violated the guidelines the 49ers had set for him regardless of the outcome of the legal case (via Pro Football Talk):
“It’s extremely disappointing for me, for Kyle, for ownership, for everybody in here,” Lynch said. “We care a lot about Reuben and I can tell you it’s a situation where we laid out some very specific ground rules for Reuben, as we do for all our players.
“What transpired yesterday — this isn’t a comment on what happened there because that would be mere speculation on our part — it’s more of a comment on him not living up to what we have communicated, and to the energy and the time we’ve invested in him.”
Foster has undeniable talent on the field, but he has had too many problems off of it for the Niners to keep him around.
