The Alabama men’s basketball team took a big step forward last year under coach Avery Johnson, riding star PG Collin Sexton all the way to the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual champion Villanova.
With Sexton off to the NBA, the Tide face an important 2018-19 season, and on Wednesday, it was announced that they’d face a Big Ten foe the next couple of years during the non-conference portion of their schedule.
Per a release from Penn State, the Nittany Lions and Crimson Tide will square off this year in Tuscaloosa, with a game at Penn State scheduled for the following season:
A home-and-home series with Alabama begins with the Nittany Lions visiting Tuscaloosa on Friday, Dec. 21 and the Crimson Tide returning the game during the 2019-2020 season.
Neither of these basketball programs has the same storied history as the football programs, but it will be a series between two up-and-coming squads.
Whatever happens this year in Tuscaloosa and next year in State College should be a lot of fun to watch.
