The nation’s No. 1 recruiting class just got better as one of Maryland’s top prospects has announced his verbal commitment to join Nick Saban’s program.

Alabama fans should head into the weekend feeling good following John Metchie’s decision to pledge to the Crimson Tide over Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame. The 6-foot, 195-pound four-star receiver is rated as a top 280 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 42 receiver and Maryland’s No. 5 overall prospect according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Before making his decision, Metchie visited Alabama and Penn State for official visits.

Metchie announced his commitment with the following video:

The Crimson Tide now hold 19 commitments for the 2019 recruiting cycle, which includes 18 prospects ranked as four- or five-star prospects. The only recruit ranked as a three-star is kicker Will Reichard, who ranks as the nation’s top prospect at his position. Metchie is now the first receiver to commit to Alabama class.

Here is Metchie’s junior season highlight reel. One look should give you an idea of the explosive potential he has every time he touches the ball on offense.
