Vanderbilt is one of the country’s biggest surprises this year, jumping out to an impressive 3-0 start.
However, No. 1 Alabama is coming to town on Saturday afternoon, and the Commodores will have their hands full with QB Jalen Hurts and the Crimson Tide.
On ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning, analyst Kirk Herbstreit said he thinks the Commodores can compete with the Crimson Tide and that Vandy should keep the score close for a while.
“Theyโve got a pulse on offense right now,” he said. “I think these guys compete. I donโt think they can last 60 minutes, but Iโll tell you right now that theyโre going to compete.โ
For years, the Crimson Tide have been playing in huge matchups on a near-weekly basis. The Commodores don’t have that experience and Herbstreit thinks it’ll be interesting to see how they respond on Saturday afternoon.
โItโs a stage theyโre just not used to being on,” he said. “How they deal with all that is going to be a big part of this game.โ
Saturday afternoon’s game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on CBS.
