When Sal Sunseri left Gainesville for Alabama, the move created an opening on Dan Mullen’s coaching staff. It apparently hasn’t taken Florida’s coach long to fill the void.
Mullen is going with someone he knows and trusts this time around and is expected to name UTSA defensive line coach David Turner as his new D-line coach in Gainesville, according to Steve Robertson of Gene’s Page/247Sports.
This would be the third time Mullen has hired Turner, as he did so twice before in Starkville. Turner was Mississippi State’s defensive line coach in 2007-09 and 2013-15. Turner also has added SEC experience with Texas A&M, where he coached Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall to All-SEC accolades.
Turner also has experience coaching notable defensive linemen Fletcher Cox, Josh Boyd, Jovan Haye, Kyle Love, Pernell McPhee and Preston Smith.
Last season, Turner was coaching the defensive line at Texas-San Antonio under former SEC assistant coach Frank Wilson.
