An Upper Iowa football player is in trouble with the law on Sunday after resisting arrest following an altercation with police officers.
According to a report from the Iowa City Press-Citizen, 19-year-old Turner Joseph Ellis was intoxicated and had appeared to have been in a fight.
Then, according to the police complaint, Ellis shoved an officer to the ground, calling it a “football move” as he shoved the police officer away:
Police found Ellis standing over a male that was knocked out and on the ground. When police made contact with Ellis, he started to run away. Police chased him and finally caught him.
When the police tried to take Ellis into custody, he then allegedly pushed an officer to the ground, injuring the officer’s knee and tearing the officer’s pants. According to the police complaint, Ellis referred to the push as a “football move.”
Ellis was charged with “assault on persons in certain occupations, bodily injury, (and) an aggravated misdemeanor,” according to the Press-Citizen report.
Ellis plays linebacker for the Upper Iowa Peacocks, where he is listed as a redshirt freshman.
