Jahmyr Gibbs named finalist for Paul Hornung Award

Jahmyr Gibbs is among the Paul Hornung Award’s 4 finalists. The Hornung Award given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.

Gibbs is joined by Jack Colletto (Oregon State), Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State), and and Will Shipley (Clemson).

“Paul Hornung was a gamer, and he appreciated players who did whatever their coaches asked of them to help the team win, the way he played the game,” said Karl F. Schmitt Jr., LSC president and CEO in a released statement. “Hornung would be pleased with this year’s finalists.”

A workhorse running back, Gibbs is also used extensively in the passing game and is a regular returning kickoffs. Gibbs averages 47 snaps per game and is 9th in the nation and 3rd in the SEC with 144.4 all-purpose yards per game.

Gibbs leads Alabama in in scoring, rushing and receptions while ranking 2nd in receiving yards. Gibbs has showed off his versatile usage throughout the 2022 season.

He touched the ball 20 times 3 different ways and scored once in a win over Texas, and touched the ball 25 times 3 different ways in the win over Texas A&M. In Alabama’s loss to Tennessee, Gibbs had a career day playing 74 snaps with 32 touches 3 different ways for 202 all-purpose yards, scoring 3 touchdowns and accounting for 10 first downs.
