Following Sunday’s news of coach Jim McElwain’s departure from Florida, AD Scott Stricklin had to step in front of a microphone and face questions from the media.

McElwain didn’t have that same obligation, but he still released a statement on Twitter.

As you can see in the tweet below, McElwain sent a classy message to the university, fans and players, thanking them for the memories and saying he’ll remember his time in Gainesville fondly:

Coming off back-to-back SEC East titles, things quickly soured for McElwain’s team this year, as the Gators currently sit at 3-4 after a huge loss to Georgia on Saturday.

The Gators will move forward with DC Randy Shannon as the interim coach, and Stricklin and his staff will start a national coaching search on Monday.

What happens next for McElwain remains to be seen, but college football probably hasn’t seen the last of him.
