LISTEN: Greg McElroy says Clemson’s starting 22 can match up with Alabama’s

For the fourth time in the last four College Football Playoff seasons, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers are meeting up. This is the third meeting where a title is on the line.
Many expect Alabama to win the game, but Clemson is no slouch, either. In fact, Dabo Swinney’s Tigers are perhaps the one team in the country that can knock the Tide off their perch.
On Friday, SEC Network analyst (and former Alabama QB) Greg McElroy joined ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM and said there’s not much that separates the Alabama starters from the Clemson starters:

“If you feel like Clemson’s starting 22 are as good (as Alabama’s), I don’t think you’re dead wrong there,” he said. “It just depends a little bit on what you value and how you perceive some things. But it’s amazingly close. As far as collectively, across the board, you’d be hard-pressed to find a defensive line that’s better than Clemson’s. (Texas) A&M also had a really good defensive line, but they were vulnerable in the secondary. … This will be a significant challenge for the offensive line, no question.”
McElroy goes on to say that he thinks the Clemson secondary isn’t as good as LSU’s so Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa may be able to find favorable matchups there. Whatever happens, it should be fun on Monday night.
