Gone are the Rex Ryan days for the Buffalo Bills.

The team is being reminded of that daily under new coach Sean McDermott. Former Alabama DL Marcell Dareus has been the focus of the stricter approach after turning in a terrible performance last season.

Mike Waufle, the team’s new defensive line coach, is a former Marine and Dareus told the The Buffalo News he’s getting no breaks from him during OTAs as the Bills try to improve on what was a disastrous defensive year in 2016:

“It’s been challenging,” Dareus said. “Dealing with an ex-Marine, he don’t play no games, he ain’t cutting no corners with us. But it’s well-deserved; we need it. We’re trying to be the best we can possibly be and he’s a hell of a coach and we’re excited to have him.”

Dareus was suspended for four games last year due to a substance abuse violation. He only appeared in eight games, recording 3.5 sacks and 24 tackles.

After signing a huge contract prior to the 2015 season, Dareus has struggled to match his 2014 campaign, when he recorded 10 sacks. The Bills are going to do everything they can this offseason to make sure they get more production out of him this fall.
