Nick Saban discusses what Alabama hopes to get out of upcoming ESPN training camp series
If you missed the news on Monday, ESPN announced Nick Saban is opening up his Alabama football program to the network’s cameras and production crew for a four-episode series that will air weekly on ESPN2 next month.
The series is called “Training Days: Rolling with the Tide” with the debut episode coming out Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
During his Tuesday appearance on ESPN program “First Take,” Saban was asked what he hopes to get out of allowing ESPN to be a part of his upcoming training camp.
“I think it’s great exposure for the program,” Saban said. “I think, just like you have a bit of a myth about what we are like and what our program is like — a lot of people do, I think when you allow things like this to happen, they see the real deal.
“We do a lot of positive things in personal development, academic support, developing players. A lot of people are having successful careers there on and off the field but we’d like for people to see it. It’s only going to be during training camp, so it won’t really affect the season. I think that’s something I would be a little more skeptical of how that would impact the players.”
So there you have it, Saban is hoping to show what Alabama football is all about to all those out there with preconceived notions that are inaccurate. If Saban was being 100 percent honest, he’d probably have just said “recruiting” to answer the question but his response works just as well.
