On Wednesday, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson announced his plans to retire from coaching.

Now, it appears the Yellow Jackets already have their top replacement candidate in mind. Per a report from From the Rumble Seat, Georgia Tech is looking at Clemson OC Tony Elliott.

Elliott has a solid pedigree, despite being only 39 years old, so it makes sense he’s on the Yellow Jackets’ radar:

Elliott, 39, has been at Clemson since 2011 and has served as its co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach since 2015. He won the Broyles Award in 2017, awarded annually to college football’s top assistant coach. Clemson is averaging 45.5 points per game this season, third-best in FBS.

Could this derail a bid at the championship for the Tigers? We saw how the Lane Kiffin drama played out at Alabama a couple of years ago.

However, the Crimson Tide managed to win a title despite DC Jeremy Pruitt landing the Tennessee job last December, so anything can happen.
