Tim Tebow sees a path for Ole Miss to receive its first College Football Playoff berth.

The “SEC Nation” crew discussed the outlook for Ole Miss as a 5-1 team ranked No. 13. While Lane Kiffin’s squad lost to Alabama, Laura Rutledge described Ole Miss as “sort of” controlling its destiny in the SEC West.

While the Crimson Tide would need to stumble to impact the division race, Tebow shifted focus to a bigger prize. The SEC Network analyst sees Ole Miss as a potential 1-loss Playoff team, even without a division or conference title. Tebow started by acknowledging Rutledge’s comments about the SEC West outlook.

“But in the College Football Playoff, I say they absolutely control their own destiny. Why? Because they play Georgia,” Tebow said. “And when you have Georgia on your schedule, if you’re able to upset them, with 1 loss, then guess what? People that ain’t putting you in the top 4, that would be pretty tough.”

Tebow’s prediction stands out. He did not state whether Ole Miss would be the only SEC team in the field of 4. Nationally, many Playoff projections see 1 team from 4 of the Power 5 conferences making the CFP. While Georgia has been a popular Playoff pick, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Washington State, Oklahoma and Penn State are also undefeated entering Week 8.

For now, Ole Miss is focused on getting a road win at Auburn. Kickoff from Jordan-Hare Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
