Tom Brady and Dak Prescott gave America a tremendous opener on Thursday night as Prescott returned from a major injury, and Brady continued to defy his age.
Prescott, who returned from a shoulder injury in training camp and a severe ankle injury last season, and Brady put on a show, and passed for a combined 782 yards and 7 touchdowns. Former South Carolina kicker Ryan Succop nailed the game-winning 36-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining to clinch the win.
Brady’s continued stellar play put up more impressive numbers. The seven-time champion started his 300th regular-season start in a 22-year career — a record for a quarterback. The 44-year-old also joined Drew Brees as the only players to throw for 300-plus yards in a game 100 times, the Associated Press reported.
Prescott proved to be very pass happy as he was 42-for-58 for 403 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception. Prescott was sacked once. Brady was similar at 32-for-50 passing for 379 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
The teams combined for 882 total yards.
The opener was a thrilling comeback for Dallas before the Bucs got the final scoring drive.
Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown caught first-half touchdown passes, and the Bucs extended their winning streak to 9 games which stretches back to December. Brady’s second TD pass of the night to Gronkowski put the defending champs up 28-19. Succop’s field goal came after Greg Zuerlein put the Cowboys ahead with a 48-yarder with 1:24 to go.
