It’s been in the works for a few days now, but it’s now official — former Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire is heading to Gainesville to play for the Florida Gators.
Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports said Zaire will head to the school on Wednesday to join his new team:
Spoke to Malik Zaire. He told me he expects to head to #UF on Wednesday & said he's very excited about the opportunity to play in the SEC.

SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic immediately began breaking down Zaire’s game tape, explaining how he’ll fit in with the Gators’ offense:

The fanbase, which has been starving for good quarterback play since the Tim Tebow era, was overwhelmingly excited to have a new big-name player at the position (who also happens to be left-handed, like Tebow):
Oh my we got Malik Zaire ??#GoGators

I think I'm about to watch some Malik Zaire highlights to turn me up

Malik Zaire will probably be the starter by week 3 for the gators if he doesn't immediately take it during camp

Naturally, though, there were some fans with questions about Zaire. After all, following years of mediocre-at-best play at the position, some fans want to see Zaire in action before they buy into the hype:
pro: Malik Zaire is definitely a quarterback
con: Is going to Florida, and is now cursed Florida quarterback— ?BUM CHILLUPS AKA SPENCER HALL? (@edsbs) June 4, 2017
How long before they turn Malik Zaire into a DB or slot receiver? No way he's playing quarterback, right?

I GOTTA ROOT FOR MALIK ZAIRE NOW. IDK MAN #CHOMP #GATORS

Whether Zaire lives up to the hype or becomes yet another mediocre Florida quarterback remains to be seen, but it’s still a big move for coach Jim McElwain and the Gators.
