The Mississippi Bulldogs shouldn’t have been in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. After losing their coach early in the season, the Bulldogs only managed a 31-25 record in the regular season, falling in the first round of the SEC Tournament to LSU.

However, based on the strength of their schedule, they snuck in. Once they were in, they weren’t supposed to advance out of the regional round, especially after losing to Oklahoma in their opening game.

Still, the Bulldogs battled back, getting a walk-off home run from Elijah MacNamee to end Florida State’s season and then winning three more games. The Bulldogs then eliminated Vanderbilt in the super-regional to get to Omaha for the College World Series.

Then, Mississippi State ran into an Oregon State juggernaut, and the Beavers put an end to the Bulldogs’ season on Saturday night, beating them in two-straight games. However, MacNamee is keeping his head held high.

As you can see in the video below, MacNamee promises a title for Mississippi State next season:

“It ended the way we didn’t want it to at all,” he said. “But we will be back next year. We will win the national championship next year, mark my words.”

The Bulldogs return a lot of talent to next year’s squad, so it’s certainly possible for them to make their way back to Omaha. With a little more stability at the coaching position, the sky is the limit for the OmaDawgs.
