Michael Porter Jr. missed most of his only season at Mizzou with a back injury. He returned for the team’s loss to Georgia in the SEC Tournament and loss to Florida State in the NCAA Tournament.
He declared for the 2018 NBA Draft, but in the buildup to the event, he hurt his hip and had to cancel one of his pre-draft workouts.
Eventually, the Denver Nuggets took a chance on him with the No. 14 overall pick, but on Wednesday, Porter joined the “Dan Patrick Show” and said he expected to go much higher:

“Before I got hurt, I would say Sacramento at No. 2,” he said. “We had talked a lot, they love me. They got a great feel for me and kinda told me I was their guy. But after that hip injury, I literally had no idea. I thought maybe Cleveland at No. 8, Chicago at No. 7. I had no idea. I had heard maybe Dallas at No. 5. I knew LA (Clippers) wasn’t taking me. There were a bunch of teams. It was kind of scary.”
Porter was the No. 1 recruit coming out of high school, according to some recruiting services, so the Nuggets may have gotten a steal. By falling so far, Porter will have plenty of motivation to turn in an incredible rookie season this winter.
