Georgia’s defense was the biggest story of Thursday’s first round of the NFL Draft, as the Bulldogs set a record with 5 selections from the defense alone, and now we’re seeing what they’ll get paid.

The theme of the night was defense and wide receivers.

The first 5 selections were on the defensive side of the ball, including edge rushers Travon Walker of national champion Georgia to Jacksonville and Aidan Hutchinson of Michigan to Detroit at Nos. 1 and 2. It was the first time in 31 years an offensive player was not drafted in the first 5 picks.

Then, as a shift in the direction of the NFL, 6 of the opening 18 selections were wideouts.

For perspective, at this time the last 2 years, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, had a total projected contract value of $36,793,489, including a $24,118,901 signing bonus. Joe Burrow’s signing bonus in 2020 as the No. 1 overall pick gave him $23.9 million.

The first number is the total contract value, the second number is the signing bonus, from Spotrac:
