Dan Mullen hasn’t slept in more than 18 months and Hugh Freeze is a false prophet. That’s according to Twitter.

The Mississippi State and Ole Miss coaches are constant fodder for opposing fans in Mississippi, an otherwise hospitable and charitable southern state that turns football into very mean things.

The question posed on Twitter, “What do you hate most about Mississippi State and Ole Miss?” The results came in and were nasty, quickly nasty. Mullen’s open disdain for Ole Miss has made it easy for Ole Miss fans after back-to-back Egg Bowl wins and Freeze’s open Christianity brings out the wolves.

“Those damn bells,” said @RogerShadburn of Mississippi State’s loveable and hateable cow bells.

“Every damn thing about old mess I hate. That clear enough,” tweeted @bully7070, who didn’t even bother to respect Old Mess enough to capitalize either word.

That was on purpose. Bully properly capitalized the rest of his grammatical structure.

“well that won’t cause a Twitter battle at all,” sarcasted @SissyyMissy.

As if the fire needed fuel, the Twitter requests for foolish fodder was fueled by news that Bulldogs basketball star Malik Newman had pulled his name from the NBA Draft and may return to school somewhere other than Starkville.

There was a #causetheysuck hashtag, an “I’m guessing this won’t end well” from @BradLoganCOTE and @dunkin1008 hates Mississippi State’s “obsession with all things ole miss,” adding “They spend way too much time obsessing over us.”

A couple of tweeters refused to participate, asking if there was no better way to spend time than stirring this already boiling Mississippi pot of hatred. One tweeted it was stupid to ask the question.

Most though found it plenty entertaining enough to either chime in or do as @cbutler_photo did and post a photo of Michael Jackson eating popcorn and looking on intently.

Opposing haters in Mississippi didn’t need Friday’s release of Ole Miss’ response to NCAA allegations to keep their feud going, but that got even national media involved in taking shots at Hugh Freeze.

Dieter Kurtenbach, a senior writer at FOX Sports, tweeted “Hey @CoachHughFreeze, I have some facts about at least 10 violations under your watch. Should I still email it? Oh, you got it? Cool thx.”

The only thing Kurtenbach didn’t do was attach a #HailState to his trolling tweet.

@maddie1012 got a dig in on Freeze, who signed the nation’s No. 5 wide receiver ironically out of Starkville High, A.J. Brown.

“Big time cheaters,” Maddie said. “I wonder if (A.J.) was told the truth by the saintly Freezus.”

“#HateMissState THE SNITCHING!!! I can’t decide on SNITCH U, SNITCH STATE, or Snitchatua State,” @drussell1980 said.

Mississippi State loves to claim “Our State.” @ccbearcat23 hates that.

At 1:40 a.m., allegedly all the way from Martha Lake, Wash., @GhostOfFiggins refused to add anything except “no comment. This will be a bloodbath.”

@mcthomas9075 thought “this (was) stupid,” but @C_Herrington80 had so many thoughts he didn’t know where to start. “oh goodness @HardinMatt where do we start?”

It was @pastmasterjones who could not stop. He created his own hashtag of #ThingsILikeMoreThanMSState. They included “waiting 45 mins on the phone for the VA pharmacy” and “doing guard duty on a hot Iraqi summer day.”

@CoachKwithaC23 added “the grove and junction are the exact same yet one is deemed more sacred.”

Are you trying to start a riot, @CoachKwithaC23? Katy Perry has been to The Grove.

His hashtag takes up most of his tweet, so it likely won’t catch on, but @ScottColeman46 went all out with “Ole Miss is what I hate about Ole Miss #BlackRebelLandBearSharks.

It got @billwardjr blocked by one tweeter and left him #smh at “Those Black Bears.”

@KimGray531 tried to keep it cordial, noting she hates that “SOME State fans put Dak (Prescott) on this pedestal like he could do NO wrong.” @bully7070 immediately chimed in again with “Kinda like ole miss people worshipping Archie (Manning) as a false god.”

@OleMissCoach74 needed way more than 140 characters. Following a simple #HateMissState hashtag tweet, he went on with “the biggest issue is “little brother syndrome.” They hate us because we are better. They tattle tale on every little thing hoping to get us in trouble so we will fall back down to their level. They want so bad to be like us and it makes their judgement and ability to be rational completely fail.”

Well that went well.
