It appears that former Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche is finally starting to turn the corner in Arizona.

Nkemdiche has provided constant pressure in the backfield through two days of training camp, and his play has drawn praise from Cardinals coach Bruce Arians. Arians described Nkemdiche as “disruptive,” and he’s convinced the former Rebels standout just had to learn what pro football was really about.

“He just had to learn what pro football is all about,” Arians told the Arizona Republic. “When you’re the No.1 high school recruit in the country and you kicked everybody’s ass in high school, and you did it in college, you just showed up and did it.

“That doesn’t work here, especially when you’ve got guys that have children and are paying bills. This is a whole different level here. … Guys that were highly recruited sometimes have such an entitlement that it doesn’t work here.”

Nkemdiche was the former No. 1 prospect in high school during the 2013 recruiting cycle. He was part of Hugh Freeze’s headlining class that featured OT Laremy Tunsil and WR Laquon Treadwell. It’s not just NFL coaches who struggle with making hyped prospects produce; college coaches face the same struggle, too, as it translates from high school to college.

The former Ole Miss product played in just five games, making three tackles in 2016 — disappointing to say the least for a first-round pick.

Sheer talent has never been Nkemdiche’s problem; it’s the intangibles and desire to be great. Arians openly criticized Nkemdiche last season, but it seems, he’s finally starting to see him come around.
