Hugh Freeze discusses what he thinks led to his firing and why teams won't hire him

The 2018 season is two weeks old, and former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze still doesn’t have a job.

After he was forced to resign at Ole Miss following a scandal prior to the 2017 season, Freeze hasn’t been able to find a team willing to take a chance on hiring him.

On Monday, Freeze joined “Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly” and discussed the circumstances that led to his firing and why he thinks he doesn’t have a job:

Freeze: I think the combination of all the scrutiny played into the decision (to fire me). … I think when my personal issue came to light, it put Ole Miss in a difficult spot. While I wish they would have tried to stand with me, I’m the one who put them in that spot.

Freeze: What I see is that the program I led is still under NCAA sanctions of some type until the end of this season. I just believe for me to be on another sideline right now…that it plays some type of role in decisions (to not hire me).

Based on those comments, it seems Freeze expects to have a job this time next year, and thinks it’ll be because Ole Miss is no longer under NCAA sanctions.

However, it also won’t hurt that a full two years will have passed. Freeze will no longer have to serve a two-game suspension if he’s hired as a head coach.
