Lane Kiffin talks victory over Tulsa, updates RB Zach Evans' status
No. 16 Ole Miss escaped with a 35-27 home win over Tulsa on Saturday.
The Rebels defense, which had been sensational in starting the season 3-0, gave up 457 total yards, including 262 on the ground.
Additionally, the 27 points the Rebels surrendered were more than twice as many as they had given up all season (13).
The Ole Miss offense, meanwhile, rushed for 308 yards in the win but was also held scoreless in the 2nd half.
Mississippi is now 4-0, but better competition lies ahead. It plays its SEC opener next Saturday against Kentucky, which is ranked No. 8 in this week’s AP Top 25.
Rebels coach Lane Kiffin met with the media to discuss the game after the victory over the Golden Hurricane.
As one might have expected, he wasn’t thrilled with the performance:
On quarterback Luke Altmyer’s role:
Lane Kiffin just acknowledged for the first time that Luke Altmyer is "the backup quarterback." Says #OleMiss has a plan for Luke and his family moving forward but doesn't give much more of an answer after that.

On quarterback Jaxson Dart and his ability to run the ball:
"We did not want to run him so much. I thought he was good and smart with the ball."

On Zach Evans’ getting limited touches in the 2nd half:
Lane Kiffin says "a medical thing" kept Zach Evans out in the second half. With #OleMiss already missing Ulysses Bentley IV today, that's a big development going into next week.
