Lane Kiffin announced Saturday morning that he will miss Ole Miss’ season opener against Louisville Monday night due to a breakthrough case of COVID-19.

Kiffin has received the vaccination, but since he tested positive and is experiencing mild symptoms, he won’t travel with the team to face the Cardinals.

So, who will step in for Kiffin as Ole Miss’ head coach? Kiffin was asked that very question on College GameDay Saturday morning. His answer? Everyone.

“We’ll meet all the way up until game-day on every scenario possible and throughout the coaching staff everybody will have their roles to pick up where we need,” Kiffin said Saturday morning. “We’ll communicate with the officials that way. Our guys have been trained really well in situations what to do and so they’re going to go do it without me.”

This is a tough loss for Ole Miss and quarterback Matt Corral. Offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby is more than capable to call the offensive game without Kiffin; however, he’ll have to prove that Monday night against Louisville — so will Corral. Corral enters as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks who is expected to have a monster season.

Ole Miss and Louisville kickoff Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
