Hugh Freeze’s Ole Miss teams have often relied on the southeastern region as a pipeline for their recruits, but the Rebels have gone north of the Mason-Dixon Line to secure Ohioan OG Blaine Scott, who announced his commitment on Friday.

Scott, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound tackle out of East High School is rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 20 OG recruit in the country according to his 247Sports Composite Rankings. He checks in as the No. 361 overall prospect right now, before playing his senior season. He is the second 2018 prospect to commit to Ole Miss this week, joining defensive lineman Quentin Bivens.

Scott formalized his commitment via his Twitter account Friday.

As a player, Scott is a heavy, mauling run blocker that dominated his matchup once he engaged. Unlike many highly-touted recruits who get slotted in as a blindside tackle in high school, Scott was able to develop his skills at guard, where he will project at the next level.

Though his footwork and balance could use some improvement, and he’s far from nimble, he has shown a bit of versatility. In high school, Scott saw time as a blocking-specialized, strong side tight end who helped contain the edge, as well as a holding his own in pulling situations.

As they say, you can’t coach size, and Blaine Scott already has the size to compete at the SEC level.
