Last year’s wacky 53-52 finish between Arkansas and Ole Miss will go down as one for the record books.

Down by a touchdown in overtime — whilst facing a 4th-and-25 situation — Arkansas managed to convert on an improbable play featuring former skill players Hunter Henry and Alex Collins.

Arkansas then punched in a touchdown, and won the game with a two-point conversion call. The loss essentially knocked Ole Miss out of playing in the SEC Title Game.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze spoke about the gut-wrenching loss Wednesday. With both teams squaring off versus one another this Saturday in Fayetteville, the Rebels will certainly be looking for revenge. Quarterback Chad Kelly spoke to ESPN about the defeat:

“It hurt. More than probably just a regular loss or even getting blown out because for about five to 10 seconds, we thought we had the game won. But that’s what it makes this game so great. Watching the Texas A&M-Tennessee game, the past two weeks for Tennessee — it’s a game of inches, and you just never know. You’ve got to play until the last second.”

Defensive lineman D.J. Jones appears to be using this sour defeat as a means for motivation:

“Anybody can say it won’t motivate you, but everybody is thinking about that. Just the fact that what happened, the situation — winning that game could’ve put us in the SEC Title Game. It’s a motivational factor for me.”
