Bad news seems to be following former Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly these days as the former standout signal caller apparently won’t get another chance to impress NFL teams with his arm before the start of the 2017 NFL Draft. After being forced to stop his workout due to injury during the Ole Miss Pro Day event, Kelly had hoped to throw for NFL scouts and evaluators one more time before the draft.

According to USA TODAY Sports NFL writer Tom Pelissero, that won’t be happening, as Kelly has undergone wrist surgery that will sideline his arm for three months.

Being ready for camp is important for Kelly, as his stock has dropped dramatically in a year’s time. Thought to be a lock to be drafted heading into his senior season in Oxford, it’s fair to question whether the record-setting quarterback is even selected in the upcoming draft despite throwing for 6,800 yards and 50 touchdowns in his two seasons with Ole Miss. If Kelly isn’t drafted, he’ll need to prove himself in summer camp to even get a shot at playing in the NFL next season.

After being invited to participate in the Senior Bowl, Kelly was not extended an invitation to the NFL Combine. Compounding the concerns regarding his behavior in the past, Kelly tore his ACL in early November and is still recovering from that injury. Now having to deal with another rehab, Kelly will have to prove his body is healthy and that he can keep his image clean if he has any chance of making a final roster for any of the 32 NFL teams.
