Walker Howard is staying in the SEC.

After spending 1 season at LSU under coach Brian Kelly, Howard is transferring to Ole Miss to play for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels.

Howard made that announcement on Wednesday morning:

Howard played sparingly as a true freshman at LSU. He completed 2-of-4 passes for 7 yards during his limited playing time. He also rushed the ball 6 times for 33 yards.

Howard was a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school. He was the No. 40 overall player and the No. 5 quarterback in the country for the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

With Jayden Daniels returning to LSU in 2023, Howard opted for the transfer portal in search of more playing time. He could have the opportunity to compete for Ole Miss’ starting job next season.

Ole Miss’ starter in 2022, Jaxson Dart, struggled at times. He finished the year with a 143.6 passer efficiency rating, which ranked 7th in the SEC amongst qualified passers. He also threw 11 interceptions, which was more than every other QB in the SEC except for Spencer Rattler.

Howard and the Rebels will host LSU on Sept. 30, 2023.
