The Ole Miss Rebels suffered a devastating loss on Saturday when starting QB Shea Patterson injured his knee.

Patterson will miss the rest of the season, which means the Rebels will have to turn to backup QB Jordan Ta’amu moving forward.

During Monday’s press conference, interim coach Matt Luke discussed Patterson’s injury and whether or not the star sophomore will need surgery on his torn PCL, as you can see in the video below shared by Ole Miss beat writer Davis Potter on YouTube:

“It’s going to be immobilized for probably two to three weeks and then you go back and you take another picture of it and you see where it is at that point,” he said. “Then you make the decision. In about three weeks, we’ll find out if he’s going to have surgery.”

Luke said Patterson’s loss is a big one, but Ta’amu led two scoring drives on Saturday against LSU — one field goal and one touchdown.

Luke said Ta’amu is a great athlete and the Rebels’ offense should continue to click with him at the helm running and throwing the ball:

“That’s one of his strengths — he can really run,” he said. “He’s a very, very good athlete.”

Ta’amu and the Rebels will take on an equally battered Arkansas team this weekend. How Ta’amu performs will be one of the biggest keys to the game.
