Coming off of a humbling loss to Alabama, Ole Miss (2-1) will look to bounce back this week when the Rebels play host to Kent State (1-2) in a 11 a.m. local time kickoff on Saturday on the SEC Network.

Coach Matt Luke previewed Kent State on Wednesday and said the Golden Flashes use an up-tempo spread offense where they try to create space and run on the outside.

“As far as off getting off to a fast start, it comes down to coaching, our guys executing the calls and coming out with some energy,” Luke said.

Looking back on the Alabama loss, Luke said the Crimson Tide won plenty of one-on-one matchups, including WR Jerry Jeudy. The quarterbacks also handled pressure well.

“They score so fast, it’s a different dynamic with that,” he said. “They still play great defense.”

Luke said Alabama responded after Ole Miss scored first and, “went down the field and scored. I was impressed with Tua (Tagovailoa), he scrambled out and made plays. It snowballed on us.”

The difference, though, was up front, Luke said, as Alabama pressured QB Jordan Ta’amu, who was uncomfortable for the first time this season.

“I think offensively we could have protected better and got the ball out quicker,” Luke said. “Maybe throwing the ball faster. I think defensively, we got out of gaps and let Tua run for first downs.”

Luke said Tagovailoa can throw on the run, has good receivers, a great offensive line and great backs.

“It’s tough to defend,” he said.
