Coming off a subpar fourth season in the NFL, Jacksonville has decided to throw Donte Moncrief nearly $10 million to catch passes from Blake Bortles in 2018.

The former Ole Miss standout receiver has spent his entire NFL career in Indianapolis before signing with Jacksonville this offseason. After appearing in eight games in the 2017 season, Moncrief caught 26 passes for 391 yards a career-low two touchdowns. He appeared in only 12 games last season and made only nine appearances in 2016. In four years in Indy, he has 1,875 yards and 18 touchdowns.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Moncrief will make nearly $10 million guaranteed from the Jaguars in 2018, with the possibility of making another $2 million with incentives.

Among seeing the deal, Joe Banner, former president and CEO with Eagles and Browns, called it the ‘worst team contract in all of free agency’ this offseason.

While the deal may not make much sense for the Jaguars, credit Moncrief and his representatives for getting every dollar they could for the NFL veteran. This is just the latest sign that money is being thrown around in record amounts this offseason in the NFL.
