Former Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson was selected No. 34 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night.

Robinson is a former 5-star high school recruit who was rated the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 4 overall player in the class of 2014. Nick Saban went into Louisiana and cherry picked one of the best prospects in the country to help anchor his offensive line.

And anchor it he did.

During his time in Tuscaloosa, Robinson started every game at left tackle (43 games), and he was named a unanimous All-America selection. Following a very good junior season, Robinson won the Outland Trophy, awarded annually to college football’s top interior lineman, offensive or defensive.

There was some debate leading up to the NFL Draft about whether Robinson would be an offensive tackle or a guard in the NFL. The former Freshman All-American and two-time first-team All-SEC performer will now be able to answer those questions.

The only blemish on Robinson’s Alabama resume was the fact that he was arrested with a teammate (Hootie Jones), found with marijuana and a stolen handgun in the vehicle. The DA eventually declined to prosecute Robinson.

Robinson’s 6-foot-6, 322 pound frame should allow him to transition into the NFL with ease, either at tackle or guard. The bottom line on Robinson is he’s been a road grader at Alabama, and that shouldn’t change at football’s highest level in the NFL.
