After setting the SEC’s all-time scoring record, former Auburn K Daniel Carlson’s NFL career didn’t get off to a great start.

In fact, he only lasted two weeks with the team that drafted him, as a few missed kicks against the Green Bay Packers forced his Minnesota Vikings to settle for a tie.

Now a member of the Oakland Raiders, Carlson is bouncing back, and even has a game-winning kick on his resume. In an interview with AL.com, Carlson explained what it was like going through those early season struggles:

“It’s definitely a crazy experience, and you don’t really know what it’s gonna be like. You hear about it all across the NFL happening to different guys especially in the specialist world, there’s no backup. So you’re playing or you’re sitting at home. And so it is just a crazy experience. And you know, luckily for me, just like my time at Auburn, I always had my faith to rely on, and know things were gonna work out eventually and stuff. Just continue to work after I got cut and continue to try and improve and fix some things, and getting ready for my next shot.”

It says a lot about Carlson that he was able to bounce back, and it seems he’s settling in as the Raiders’ kicker.
