Jakob Johnson is proving that fullbacks do indeed matter.

The former Tennessee Volunteer was re-signed by the Las Vegas Raiders to a 1-year deal Tuesday evening after playing 1 season with the Raiders in 2022. Prior to that, Johnson spent 3 seasons in New England. Though it is not expected of a fullback, Johnson has scored 1 NFL touchdown with the Patriots.

Johnson is quickly becoming one of the top fullbacks in the league, standing at 6-foot-3 255 pounds.

Johnson played at tight end for Tennessee in college during the Butch Jones era. He played often on special teams and some on the defensive line his freshman season.

A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Johnson entered the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program and earned an opportunity with the Patriots in 2019. His raw power stuck with head coach Bill Belichick, and he eventually became a valued player at a position that is slowly dying in the NFL.
